This week brings our FIRST football game performance, so please read the following email closely for important information!
All bands will be rehearsing and will need MARCHING instruments during class this week. DHS Band Handbook and Required Forms All required forms including the Band Handbook can be found on our website under the Parents and Boosters tab. The link to our website is https://www.denisonbands.org/. Several students are still missing the required forms, and have been emailed individually. It is vital that the PERMISSION TO TRAVEL FORM be turned in prior to the football game on Friday. All Region Sectionals Students in Wind Ensemble are required to participate in weekly sectionals focusing on the All Region music, in preparation for auditions later in the semester. Other students are encouraged to attend these sectionals, although they are not required. The Band Hall will open at 6:00 am, and sectionals begin promptly at 6:30 am. Participation in these sectionals are minor grades for Wind Ensemble members, so be sure to arrive on time. Monday: Percussion, Trumpet, and Bassoon Tuesday: Flute, Euphonium, and Oboe Wednesday: Clarinet, Trombone, and Low Clarinets Thursday: Saxophone, French Horn and Tuba Student Drop Off / Band Hall Hours Unless your student is dropped off early for sectionals, we ask that you utilize the back Auditorium entrance. The exterior Band Hall doors will only be open to allow students in for sectionals, and then will lock for the remainder of the morning. This week, the Band Hall will open at 6:00 AM, and close after school at 6:45 PM daily. On Wednesday, the Band Hall will stay open until 8:00 PM for private lessons. Students are allowed to stay in the Band Hall to practice, complete homework, study, or observe rehearsals. No food or drink are allowed in the Band Hall. We ask that if your student brings a water jug for rehearsal after school that they do NOT fill it with water and leave it in their locker (they tend to leak into the lockers below). There are places to fill up their water jug right outside of the Band Hall after school. Required Marching Band Rehearsals We will have our regular marching band practice schedule this week (see below). Students will have access to the Theater Dressing Rooms after school to change. Please remind your students to bring both a change of clothes and a water jug. They can use the water fountains or sinks to fill their water jugs (we do NOT recommend ice in jugs; as room temperature water is actually better for preventing heat illness). Marching Band rehearsals are required and graded. Please refer tothe Absence policy in the DHS Band Handbook. BOTA Volunteers Needed We need several parent volunteers for the first football game. This is a great way to support the Touch of Gold Marching Band, see your student perform, and avoid having to camp out to get your BOTA tickets! To sign up for the BOTA Game, please use this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050F4EACAA2AABFF2-bota Food Set Up: We will need 2 people to meet at the DHS Cafeteria at 3:00 pm to set up the after school meal for students. You will need to check in at the front office when you arrive. This should only take about an hour or so. You are welcome to also sign up to chaperone or work with field crew! Chaperone: We need at least 10 chaperones for the football game, although 15 would be ideal. Please wear a DHS or band t-shirt to the game. We will provide you with an official “Chaperone” badges to wear during the game. These must be returned to Jennifer Green following the game. The main role of the chaperone is to supervise behavior on the bus ride (no PDA, sitting in the aisle, etc.) and escorting students to the bathroom during the game. If you have any questions, please ask Mrs. Green. Field Crew: While we are not using props this week, we will need field crew help with the front ensemble and drum major podiums. The main role of the field crew is to help set up the field for the halftime performance. Please wear a DHS or band t-shirt to the game. We will provide you with an official “Field Crew” badge to wear during the game and to allow you onto the field during halftime. If you have any questions, please contact John Dornstadter. BOTA Football Game Students are NOT permitted to leave the DHS campus after school on Friday, August 30th. We will provide them with dinner. In addition, all students will be picked up from DHS following the game. Please be sure that your student brings all necessary items to school on Friday for the game performance. These include: new dri-fit t-shirt, gray athletic shorts (these will be given out in class this week), long, plain black socks, and marching shoes (if ordered new this year, these will be given out in class this week). Students also need their flip folder and lyre. Please utilize the duffel bag that was checked out to your student at the beginning of the year to transport these items to/from school. If your student ordered marching shoes this year, please label the inside of each shoe with their initials! Spirit Night This Tuesday, August 27th from 3:00 PM - 10:00 PM our band program is having a fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse in Sherman. Please come and support our band by saying “I’m with the band” when purchasing food at Texas Roadhouse! Fox Sports will be there to host a tailgate. Be sure to come check us out as we perform stand tunes for the crowd at 5:30 pm!
